Mission Fund Seeks Grant Requests
August 11, 2008
St. Francis Health Center’s Mission Fund is seeking requests for proposals from area agencies for its community grants program that funds health care-related needs with a special focus on the poor. The fund gave more that $65,000 to five agencies in 2007, the program’s inaugural year. It expects to distribute approximately $100,000 this year.
Agencies that provide assistance with dental care; access to health care; early education and development for children under age six; youth character development; job skill development; and crime reduction or prevention, and are located in Shawnee, Douglas, Jefferson, Jackson, Pottawatomie, Wabaunsee or Osage counties are eligible to participate.
“The Mission Fund is an example of the spirit and mission of St. Francis Health Center to improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Rose Mary Boyd, vice president of mission integration at St. Francis. “By collaborating with community agencies to address the needs of the poor, the underserved and the uninsured, more people will benefit through this unified effort. Innovative agency programs designed to enhance the overall well-being of a wide range of individuals could have far-reaching benefits beyond the scope of time for which the grant is awarded.”
Requests for application materials will be accepted through Aug. 25 by calling 295-8933 or e-mailing Brenda Snyder at brenda.snyder@sftks.net. Agencies should provide a contact name, agency name, mailing address and telephone number. Questions should be directed to Rose Mary Boyd at rosemary.boyd@sftks.net. Application materials will be mailed beginning Aug. 26 and completed applications are due Oct. 3. Agencies can request up to $15,000 for their projects. Grants will be chosen by the Mission Fund Committee and will be distributed in December for agencies to use during 2009. The primary goals of the Mission Fund are to address identified needs within the community and to build collaborative relationships with community agencies already focused in these areas of need.
