St. Francis Named Employer of Excellence
June 2, 2008
St. Francis Health Center received the 2008 Employer of Excellence Award from the YWCA at its 20th annual Leadership Luncheon held at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center Monday, June 2.
Kim Gronniger, administrative director, Marketing and Communications, accepted the award on behalf of St. Francis. The nomination noted the Health Center’s history of leadership by women as well as its strong commitment to empowering women at all levels of employment. “For 97 of its 99 years, St. Francis has been led by women and under the leadership of its first male president and chief executive officer, Mike Schrader, it has expanded further advancement and enrichment opportunities for women and has encouraged leaders of both sexes to pursue their full potential.”
Avis Cowhick, a volunteer with St. Francis Community Partners, was nominated as one of the 2008 Women of Excellence for successfully balancing a career and volunteer work in the community. Cowhick owns and operates a successful wedding planning business, volunteers at ERC Resource and Referral, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Project Topeka, the American Business Women’s Association and St. Francis Health Center. Cowhick was praised for giving “her whole self to her aspiration of helping others, and she succeeds with grace.”
