Common Billing Questions and Answers

St. Francis Health Center provides comprehensive health care services in a spirit of Christian love while establishing payment policies that will enable us to continue fulfilling our Mission. Below are answers to common questions about billing and payment procedures at St. Francis.

Will you bill my insurance?
St. Francis will bill your insurance as a courtesy to you. We need complete insurance information to honor that commitment. However, you are responsible for full payment of any unpaid amounts billed to your insurance carrier.

Are there exceptions?
In some cases, such as Medicare, your responsibility is limited to applicable co-payments, deductibles and non-covered services. More specific information may be obtained from your health plan.

What if I don’t have health insurance coverage?
If you do not have health insurance coverage, several payment options are available. If you do not have the ability to pay for services provided, we will refer you to a patient account representative at St. Francis to determine your qualification for Medicaid or other assistance.

What are my payment options?
We expect payment in full upon receipt of your statement for services provided at St. Francis. We accept cash, check or credit card (VISA, American Express, Discover and MasterCard).

If full payment is not possible, we offer an interest-free, up to 12 month installment payment plan. Please contact a patient account representative at 866-665-2636 for more information.

When am I responsible for obtaining approval from my health insurance plan before receiving services at St. Francis?
Depending on your insurance plan, you may be required to contact your primary care physician or health plan for approval before receiving services. If your situation is life-threatening, you or a family member should contact your physician or health plan within 24 hours of seeking emergency services. If approval is not received, you will be responsible for full payment. For more specific information, please contact your health plan.

Does St. Francis participate with my health plan?
“Participation” means that St. Francis has an agreement with an insurance company health plan to provide for its members. Contact your health insurance plan to make certain that St. Francis is a participant within your plan’s network.

What if St. Francis does not participate with my health plan?
If you are a member of a health plan in which St. Francis does not participate, you may still receive services at St. Francis. These services are considered out-of-network and may not be covered by your insurance carrier. You are responsible for full payment of the account if the balance is not covered by your health plan.

What about my physician’s charges?
You, or your insurance carrier, will receive a separate bill for physician services such as surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists or other physicians providing services to you.

Do I have to register each time I seek services at St. Francis?
Yes. Our goal is to pre-register you before you arrive at the Health Center for scheduled services. We call you at home and gather the necessary information over the phone, which simplifies the process of registration once you arrive at the Health Center.
