Our team’s mission is your cancer’s remission.
When it comes to the biggest challenge you might ever face, you’ll want the best team on your side. The experienced, dedicated team at the Cancer Center at St. Francis Health is committed to a complete, cohesive approach to cancer care.
We were the first in the Topeka area to be accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons. Our certified Cancer Center is the premier facility for advanced radiation treatment in the region, providing a full range of cancer care services, including surgery and chemotherapy.
St. Francis has acquired a PET/CT, the most advanced cancer diagnostic equipment in Kansas, underscoring it's commitment to be at the forefront of the battle against cancer. PET/CT scans can show doctors whether radiation or chemotherapy treatments are working or whether they need to be changed to be more effective in fighting cancer.
One such treatment method is Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), an innovative, noninvasive therapy used to treat cancer in the prostate, chest, shoulder, head, neck, abdomen and stomach. To ensure precise delivery of the radiation beams to the tumor during IMRT, treatment must be centered directly on the tumor. By combining CT, MRI and PET scans with computer technology, radiation oncologists at St. Francis are able to trace the tumor’s exact location. IMRT uses sophisticated treatment machines and computers to shape each treatment field to many different configurations each day, so the dose delivery is precise and adjacent normal tissues are protected.
We combine the best of technology, medicine and compassionate service in cancer treatment with a multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support for patients and families. Our team strives to maintain a positive, hopeful atmosphere for cancer patients as we work to nurture the whole person — physically, psychologically and spiritually.
