The Spine Center is available to patients undergoing procedures related to the spine.
Preoperative patient and family education is a vital part of the St. Francis Spine Center. The clinical nurse navigator serves as a critical link by providing preoperative education and shepherding each patient through all aspects of care. The physician's offices' also educate the patient about the diagnosis and the spine procedure. The educational handbook informs patients on what to do 6 weeks preoperatively and what to expect in the Health Center as well as postoperatively.
Framed photographic posters deigned to answer the most frequently asked questions are displayed prominently so patients and families receive important information as they walk the unit.
Patients begin physical therapy the day after surgery in a series of activity from lying to sitting to walking. Family members and caregivers are encouraged to attend therapy sessions.
A dedicated pharmacist serves the unit to review home medications, pain medicines and pre- and post-operative medications and herbal supplements.
