Maternity Services

Choosing where to have your baby is an important decision for you and your family. At St. Francis Health, we offer a wide range of classes and services to help you through your pregnancy. The following classes are offered through St. Francis Health. To register for a class, simply choose Maternity Services from the drop-down menu on our Health Classes page, or contact us at 888.365.0440. The following classes are free to St. Francis Health patients. Classes take place at the hospital, unless otherwise noted. 

Tours of the NewLife Center

Call 888.365.0440 to schedule a tour of the Labor and Delivery Unit, which includes our Level II Special Care Nursery*. A multi-tiered security system ensures the safety of you and your baby during your stay.  Pediatric hospitalists collaborate with neonatal nurse practitioners and NewLife Center nurses to ensure the highest quality care for your newborn during his or her stay.

Childbirth Preparation

Prepare for the birth of your child by learning about labor, delivery, cesarean birth and the tools and techniques available to you. A tour of the NewLife center is included. 

Baby Basics

Learn how to diaper, bathe, swaddle and soothe your baby. This class includes what to expect with a newborn the first few days after delivery.

 Bonding with Your Baby

Learn techniques that will help you grow closer to your baby. These include infant massage, baby sign language, carrying your baby and developmental play activities.

Baby’s First Year Feeding and Wellness

Learn what, when and how to feed your baby the first year. Also learn about food allergies, what to keep in your medicine cabinet and what to do when your baby is sick.

Baby Safety

Learn how to use and install an infant car seat correctly and the latest information in SIDS prevention and how to baby proof your home.

Boot Camp for New Dads

This class enables new dads to gain confidence in their new role before bringing their babies home. Hands-on practice of baby care skills will be experienced.

Prenatal Breastfeeding

Learn how to get breastfeeding off to a good start, how to avoid or overcome common problems and learn more about breastfeeding products and breast pumps.

Great Expectations Sibling Class

This class helps children prepare for the changes a new baby brings. Children will view a DVD and tour the NewLife Center. Children may have their photo taken to display in the Nursery window when they become a big brother or sister.

Infant and Child CPR

This course teaches choking and rescue breathing. Instructors are trained and certified through the American Heart Association. Participants are taking the Friends and Family course for infants, children and adults.

Body Benefits Prenatal/Post-Natal Exercise Class

An hour of low-impact aerobics will tone and strengthen muscles, improve flexibility and endurance. This class will help prepare you for labor and delivery and get you back in shape after delivery. Please bring a permission note from your physician.

Aquatic Prenatal Exercise Class

Improve strength, flexibility and endurance using the resistance and support of the water. (Class fee of $5 each visit.). This class is located at Great Life at the YWCA, 225 SW 12th Street, Topeka.

Prenatal Yoga

Use Yoga to improve your body alignment, strength, flexibility and endurance. (A class fee of $5 per visit.) This class is located at St. Francis Sports Medicine, 801 SW Fairlawn Rd, Topeka.

Stop by our Babymoon Boutique and Drop-In Lactation Services, located on the 2nd floor of St. Francis Health Center, 10 a.m. to noon weekdays to shop, get breastfeeding help or use our self-weigh scale. Call 785.270.5072 .
