Treatment Options
Persons diagnosed with cardiovascular conditions have several treatment options available to help mitigate or mend damage to the heart.
One or more of the following procedures and programs may be prescribed for treatment:
Medical management
(all aspects of cardiac care)
Lipid management
PTCA
(dilation of a coronary artery via a balloon-tipped catheter)
Atherectomy
(removal of the plaque of cholesterol and fatty deposits narrowing the artery through a special catheter device)
Stenting
(placement of a tiny metal scaffold into the diseased part of the blood vessel to keep it open)
Brachytherapy
(uses the latest advances in radiation therapy to prevent re-closing of a diseased artery after stenting)
Cardiovascular surgery
— St. Francis performs cardiac surgical procedures each year and uses the latest in equipment and instrumentation, including a state-of-the-art heart and lung machine, ultrasound technology and beating heart off-pump surgical techniques. An accomplished team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other staff blend technical proficiency with compassionate care to help ensure optimal stability for patients through each procedure.
Cardiac rehabilitation/cardiac risk reduction
— The cardiac rehabilitation team at St. Francis works with patients who have experienced some type of cardiac event to assist them in regaining their strength, establishing a regular exercise program, understanding their medication and learning about prevention methods.
