BERNITA BERNTSEN, MD, FACS, FASMBS
As one of nine children from a farming family in southeast Kansas, Dr. Berntsen is no stranger to hard work. She is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she completed her surgical residency. Dr. Berntsen furthered her education with advanced training in GI laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery and bariatric surgery. She specializes in all aspects of general surgery and excels at laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Berntsen is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
CARLYLE DUNSHEE II, MD, MBA, FACS, FASMBS
Dr. Carlyle Dunshee II has worked as a general surgeon for Tallgrass since July 2001. Dr. Dunshee graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and did his surgical residency at East Carolina University. He received the "outstanding resident in training" award from his residency program and obtained a master's degree in business administration while training as a surgeon. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His surgical interests include bariatric, endocrine, esophageal, vascular and minimally invasive surgery. Dunshee is the son of Dr. Carlyle Dunshee, a retired surgeon in Fort Scott, Kan.
JAMES J. HAMILTON JR., MD, FACS
Raised in western Kansas, Dr. Hamilton attended Kansas State University and the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. Dr. Hamilton completed his surgical residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass. He furthered his training to include a year of vascular surgery at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He also performed a fellowship in liver surgery at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Hamilton is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
SIDNEY HU, MD, FACS
Dr. Hu, general surgeon, was born and raised in Kansas City, Kan. She received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Kansas and a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kan. Dr. Hu completed her residency in general surgery at University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, Mo. Dr. Hu is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.
JENNIFER MCALLASTER, MD, FACS
Jennifer McAllaster, MD, FACS, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biology from the University of Kansas and a Medical Degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. McAllaster completed her residency in General Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
DANIEL P. RUIZ, PA-C
Daniel P. Ruiz, PA-C, has served in the United State Army since 1986, retiring from active duty with 20 years of active service. Dan completed his physician assistant degree at Ft. Sam Houston TX Academy of Health Sciences through the University of Oklahoma, as well as a master degree in physician assistant studies at Walter Reed Army Medical Center through the University of Nebraska. He is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. In addition to assisting during surgical procedures, Dan is involved in pre- and post-operative care of bariatric patients in the office.
